Happiness

32175_10151452286567028_165651233_nOne day a kid was asked by his teacher what he wanted to be in life. The kid replied: “I want to be happy”. The teacher told him he didn’t understand the question. Then, the kid replied again: “well, you don’t understand life”.

This answer is probably the best anyone could come up with. Later on, the kid became famous and one might know him as John Lennon. It’s hard to pick the reasons why anyone should like John Lennon – there are so many, but even if it is for this answer alone, he was a great guy. Because, isn’t this what we all want to be in life?

Happiness has been, admit it or not, the big chase of our lives. In everything we do, think, work…in the end, this “all of us” is meant to make us happy. But how do we know we are happy? How do we measure happiness? Is it in the smiles we “deliver” everyday? Is it in the joy we reflect while walking down the street? Is it in the help we offer unconditionally to our fellow beings?

Buddha also makes a point regarding happiness. A point that I find closest to my heart. He says happiness is finding yourself. It is not a journey you need to take on in life. It is not something you need to go out and discover. It is not even a trip. It is just looking towards yourself. It is the discovery of who you truly are.

Now…who am I? I am a strong person trying to become stronger. I am beautiful trying to show this to people around me. I am fearless trying to follow the Light. I am wise trying to learn my lessons. I am a lover trying to share that through everything I do.  I can laugh knowing this is the best I can do. I am myself finding myself everyday…little by little.

I am Benny… and yes, I am happy!
